The group called “The Faculty of SIO” or “The Faculty at La Jolla” or “The Faculty of UCSD” is the predecessor of the San Diego Division. Prior to approval of a separate division at UC San Diego, this group functioned as a Committee of the Los Angeles Division of the Southern Section of Academic Senate. UC San Diego was originally called University of California, La Jolla. The new name was approved by UC Regents on November 18, 1960.
