The University of California Academic Senate, San Diego Division records contain meeting materials; including minutes, agendas, presentations, and reports created by the pre-division group, the San Diego Division, and the Representative Assembly. The collection also includes committee materials.
The group called "The Faculty of SIO" or "The Faculty at La Jolla" or "The Faculty of UCSD" is the predecessor of the San Diego Division. Prior to approval of a separate division at UC San Diego, this group functioned as a Committee of the Los Angeles Division of the Southern Section of Academic Senate. During the early planning and construction process, UC San Diego was originally called University of California, La Jolla. The new name of University of California, San Diego was approved by UC Regents on November 18, 1960.
Shortly after the establishment of UC San Diego, the San Diego Division of Academic Senate was established through orders by UC Regents. Under leadership of an elected chair, the Division operates through various standing committees and ad hoc workgroups; addressing a multitude of operational matters on campus. This includes: academic freedom, academic appointments and advancement, admissions, educational policy, undergraduate and graduate courses and curriculum, international education, campus planning and budget, campus buildings and facilities, diversity and equity, faculty rights and privileges, faculty welfare and benefits, grievances, and research.
The Representative Assembly is the divisional legislative body of the Senate. During its meetings, the Assembly considers proposals to modify regulations and Senate bylaws, as well as proposals establish new degree programs. Additionally, meetings often include updates from the Administration as a whole. - Creation Date
