The Janiela' settlement, as seen from the summit of Janiel Wey
- Collection
- Description
-
The Janiela' settlement, as seen from the summit of Janiel Wey in 1928. Tomása's new summer house (ramada) is built on the natural platform in the middle left. Remains of an old house, abandoned because of a death in the family, can be seen on the slope below the platform in the center. Houses blend so perfectly into the natural landscape that it is sometimes hard to see them. At the lower right is a small cultivated field, irrigated by the water from the seepage that forms the basis for the settlement. Originally, the Kiliwa were nonagricultural. View looking west.
