The Baja California portion of the journal begins on June 23rd with Charles Warren Thornthwaite as companion. Reconnaissance along the Pacific littoral stopping in Ensenada, Santo Tomás, San Quintín, and El Rosario, where they visited extensively. They also visited the Johnson Ranch at San Antonio del Mar, the Hamilton Ranch, San Telmo, and Rancho San José (Meling Ranch). They explored the valley of Osos Negros, stopped at the mining town of El Alamo, and finally, Valle Trinidad. Upon their return to the United States, they travelled east to Calexico and visited Mexicali.
