Dr. Marco Antonio Samaniego Lopez is the director of the Institute of Historical Research of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC). His doctoral thesis, The International Rivers Between Mexico and the U.S.: The Treaties of 1906 and 1944, was awarded best doctoral thesis by the Academia Mexicana de Ciencias in 2004. He received the Anastasio G. Sarabia Award (1997) for his work, Nationalism and Revolution: The Events of 1911 in Baja California. He is the author of books including The Taxi Drivers' Union and the International Border, 1920-1933; The Civil Governments in Baja California, 1920-1923; and Brief History of Baja California.
