Summary

López was born in Peralta de Alcofea, Aragon, son of poor country people. His family moved to Barcelona soon after the Spanish Civil War, settling in the barrio of Sant Martí de Provençals. He describes his early experiences under the Frano dictatorship, including his struggles to balance work with educational goals. López cites the importance of two revolutionary movements that deeply affected him: the Revolución de los Claveles in Portugal (1974), and the Revolución Sandinista in Nicaragua. Later in the interview he discusses his radicalization and political activism, including a period of imprisonment. He also outlines his academic work in mathematics and philosophy as well as general literary influences and interests leading to his own publications, such as a biography of Manuel Sacristán Luzón. Finally, López provides a summary of the Communist movement in Spain during the 1970s, contextualizing, for example, the political activism of gays and women in Spain at that time
