Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration Records document the functions and activities of the office, including the management of reporting administrative units.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration provided the UCSD campus with business, support, and administrative services that fostered campus growth and helped to ensure excellence in the campus's teaching, research and public service. Supporting the administrative roles of the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, the office's functions included university relations, development, administrative computing, business contracts, and facilities construction.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration has undergone several name changes since the title was first used in 1967 when Robert H. Biron served as vice chancellor. The office was inactive during 1968-1969 and its functions were taken over by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance from 1969 to 1972, when Bernard Sisco was named Vice Chancellor for Administration. Sisco continued as vice chancellor until his retirement in 1980, and Herman D. Johnson became acting vice chancellor. From 1982 to 1984, the office was named the Office of Resource Management, from 1984 to 1986 it was the Office of Resource Management and Planning, and from 1986 to 1995 it changed back to Administration. From 1982 to 1994, V. Wayne Kennedy served as vice chancellor.

The materials relate to property acquisition and management, especially Blackhorse Farms, La Jolla Farms, and the Elliott Field Station; as well as facility construction, including Engineering Building 1, the Faculty Club, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Magnetic Recording Research Center, and Thornton Hospital; internal audits; intellectual property and technology transfer; and, budgets.

The bulk of the files relate to the administration of V. Wayne Kennedy and date between 1982 and 1992.
