The Chancellor is UC San Diego's chief administrative officer and has general authority across the university. He or she is responsible for establishing UC San Diego's administrative structure and insuring that it functions responsibly and efficiently.
The Chancellor has the specific, delegated authority to represent the University in public forums. As such, the Chancellor plays a significant public role in many of the special events and celebrations that take place at UC San Diego.
