DESCRIPTION: This accession includes index cards noting underwater  
observations collected for a Kelp Bed Fish Food Study from 1958-1959,  
skin diving and fishing observations when Quast was an ichthyology  
student at UCLA, and 35mm slides of Richard Rosenblatt, Jay Quast,  
Jean (Mrs. Pat) Kauanui [an SIO Institute of Marine Resources  
technician], Elbert Ahlstrom, and Scripps work including fishing. The  
field notes were taken on the Southern California coast and the west  
coast of Baja California. Includes Kelp Program memoir.

Dr. Elbert “Ahlie” Ahlstrom, Director of the US Bureau of Fisheries,  
National Marine Fisheries Service Laboratory at Scripps. He is presenting  
data on the hake fishery off California, probably at the US Commerce  
Department’s Montlake Laboratory at Seattle at a conference in 1972.
