DESCRIPTION: The accession consists of 46 glass lantern slides. The images include  
Six color lantern slides depicting the scientific work of SIO on the E.W. Scripps and in  
laboratories on campus. These were taken after 1937.  
Twenty slides of oceanographic instruments.  
Six diagrams depicting the cruises of the E.W. Scripps during its first years of operation and  
depicting the study of sand levels on the Scripps beach conducted by Eugene LaFond.  
Thirteen largely undated slides showing storm damage in coastal areas of southern California.  
One slide of water breaking over the bow and decks of E.W. Scripps during a storm which  
occurred during the first Gulf of California Expedition in February 1939.
