Description: Dr. Joanne Bourgeois collected biographical information on
Philip Henry Kuenen for a biography published in the Dictionary of
Scientific Biography in 1988. During the course of her research, she
corresponded with Kuenen’s colleagues and his daughter, Madeline
Dommering-Kuenen. She sent questionnaires to his daughter and to
colleagues including T.J. van Andel, Arnold Bouma, G.J. Boekschoten,
Aart Brouwer, Robert S. Dietz, K.O. Emery, G. de V. Klein, G.V.
Middleton, J.E. Sanders. John B. Southard, and R.G. Walter. The
accession includes their correspondence and returned questionnaires.
Dommering-Kuenen sent Bourgeois some of her father’s papers. The
accession includes correspondence exchanged by Kuenen with John B.
Sanders dated 1953-1965. The accession also includes Kuenen’s
reprints include some signed and annotated papers received from his
daughter and colleagues. The accession includes two copy prints of
photographs taken of Kuenen in 1929.
