Description
This is the main body of Theodore Holmes Bullock Papers and documents his career and university life
from his earliest student days until his death. The accession includes photograph albums, negatives,
prints and slides, audio visual files, and calendars. The biographical files include Dr. Bullock’s bio-bib
files from the University of California, biographical files and honors, certificates and awards.
Correspondence is arranged in two subseries:
Ancient Correspondence (1930-1940) arranged
alphabetically, and Correspondence (1941-2005) arranged alphabetically. The accession includes field
records which include field photographs. Teaching records include lecture notes and student files.

Neurobiologist Ted Bullock was born in Nanking, China in 1915, the second of four children of
Presbyterian missionaries. He married Martha Runquist. He received an A.A. (Associate in Arts) degree
from Pasadena Junior College, in 1934. While a student in Berkeley, he worked on the termite research
project for Charles A. Kofoid. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in
1940. After serving for 20 years as a professor of zoology and member of the Brain Research Institute at
UCLA, Bullock joined UCSD in July, 1966 and worked at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography until
his retirement. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1963.
