Biography

Dr. James C. Blair, Jim, Ph.D., serves as a Partner of Domain Associates, L.L.C. Dr. Blair has been in this role since joining Domain on it’s founding in 1985. Dr. Blair has over 40 years experience with venture and emerging growth companies. He has been a Principal Partner and the U.S. Venture Capital Advisor at Biotechnology Investments Limited since it commenced operations in 1981. He serves as Partner of Domain Partners VIII, L.P. He served as Principal Partner at Biotechnology Investments Limited. Dr. Blair served as the Managing Director at Rothschild Inc., where he was directly involved at a senior level with Rothschild and New Court venture capital activities from 1978 to 1985. From 1969 to 1978, Dr. Blair was associated with F.S. Smithers and Co. and White, Weld and Co. Prior to that, from 1961 to 1969, he served as a Manager at RCA Corporation, during which time he received a David Sarnoff Fellowship. He served as an Investment Trust Managing Director at N M Rothschild & Sons Limited. He served at F. S. Smithers and Co. and White, Weld & Co. He serves as the Chairman of Pharmion Corp., since January 2000. He serves as the Chairman of the Board at GenVault Corporation. He served as the Chairman and Director of Sound Health Solutions, Inc. from July 1995 to August 2004. Dr. Blair served as the Chairman of iVOW, Inc. from July 1995 to August 2004 and Lion Biosciences, Inc. from September 1992 to January 1998. Dr. Blair serves as a Director of aTyr Pharma Inc., Astute Medical Inc., CoDa Therapeutics, Inc., Meritage, Clovis Oncology, Inc., Cell Biosciences, NeuroPace, Clovis Oncology, Inc. IntegenX Inc., Meritage Pharma, Inc., Verus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Ansata Therapeutics. He has been an Independent Director of Applied Proteomics, Inc. since February 7, 2012, Zogenix, Inc. since August 2006, Independent Director of Cadence Pharmaceuticals Inc., since September 12, 2005 and Director of LION Bioscience, Inc. since May 1992. He has been an Independent Director of Pharmion LLC since January 2000. He serves as a Member of Advisory Board at Mountain Group Capital LLC. In the course of his experience, he has been involved in the creation and successful development as a Member of the Board of Directors of over 40 life sciences ventures including Aurora Biosciences, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Novacea, Inc., Cytovia,, Dura Pharmaceuticals, Pharmion, Inc., Trega Biosciences, Volcano, Microchip Biotechnologies, CaP CURE, Cytovia, Inc., and Vista Medical. Dr. Blair has been a Member of the Board of Directors of Trega Biosciences, Inc. since May 1992. He serves as a Member of the Industry Advisory Board of the Montagu Newhall Associates, Inc. and a Member of the Advisory Board of Ferrer Freeman & Company, LLC and Mountain Group Capital LLC. He served as a Director of Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Ancile Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Helixis, Inc., Senomyx Inc., NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc., ProteinSimple, Applied Biosystems, Inc., Five Prime Therapeutics, Inc., Molecular Dynamics, Inc., Amgen Inc., Conforma Therapeutics Corporation, SICOR, Inc., GeneOhm Sciences, Inc., Pharmion, Inc., and Volcano, Inc. Dr. Blair served as a Director of NuVasive Inc. since December 1999, Xcel Pharmaceuticals Inc. since March 2001, Aurora Biosciences Corp.'s since March 1996, Dura Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s since 1986, Volcano Corporation from February 2001 to November 2007 and Cocensys Inc. since August 1990. He served as an Independent Director at Novacea, Inc. from March 2001 to September 2007. He also serves as a Member of the Board of the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Cancer Research Institute. He serves as a Member of Industry Advisory Board at Greenspring Associates, Inc. He is a Member of the Advisory Board of the Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, the Caltech Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, the Caltech Innovation Initiative, and the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University. He is also a Member of the Board of Councilors and Member of Advisory Board of the USC Stevens Institute for Innovation. During the period from 1961 to 1969, Dr. Blair received a David Sarnoff Fellowship. He received both Ph.D. and an M.S.E. in Electronic Engineering from University of Pennsylvania in 1969 and 1964 respectively and a B.S.E. from Princeton University in 1961.
