Free Access to Newspapers for Campus Community

In the midst of a global pandemic like COVID-19, it is increasingly important for us to find and consume reliable news to keep ourselves informed on the latest developments. To that end, we wanted to call your attention to our Newspaper Library Guide that links to hundreds of trustworthy periodicals from around the globe, licensed by the Library and provided free to UC San Diego students, faculty, and staff.

Access to the publications and databases listed in this LibGuide can be granted remotely by connecting to the UC San Diego network via the campus VPN service and choosing the 2-Step Secured – Allthruucsd group with Cisco AnyConnect VPN.

The Newspaper LibGuide features a section entitled “Today’s Headlines,” which is powered by the Library’s subscription to Factiva and provides the latest headlines from major dailies, including our own local daily, the San Diego Union-Tribune, in real time. You’ll also notice the guide is divided into additional sections: Newspaper Databases, Historical Newspapers, San Diego News, US News, International News, and UCSD News. Of particular note are databases such as Nexis Uni and Access World News, links to which are found on the Newspaper Databases tab and which include millions of articles from news sources from around the country and world. Major papers, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and The Wall Street Journal, are also available in the US Major Dailies database.

We hope this information will help keep you informed on the latest COVID-19 developments and general news. If you have any questions about how to use this LibGuide or any of the sources listed on it, please contact us via email or chat
