UC San Diego Library continues the celebration of the 7th Annual World Bookmark Day, orchestrated by the International Friends of Bookmarks. Also known as “quitter strips,” bookmarks have been a functional companion of books for more than 2,000 years.
An assortment of unique bookmarks of varying shapes and sizes are on display, including bookmarks celebrating:
- Black History Month (featuring figures like Rosa Parks, Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington)
- Women’s History Month (featuring important women in recent history, such as Stacey Abrams, Michelle Obama, Elizabeth Warren and Ruth Bader Ginsburg)
- Social Justice (featuring approximately 50 award-winning bookmarks handmade by students from The Preuss School UC San Diego)
- UC San Diego collections and other campus-affiliated initiatives, such as sustainability, Audrey’s Café and more
