Taken from the sci-fi aesthetics of UC San Diego’s iconic Geisel Library building, the UC San Diego Library is hosting a written/spoken word event: Short Tales from the Mothership! Join us Thursday, May 31 at 6:30 p.m. in the Seuss Room.
Writers should send fantasy or science fiction pieces of no more than 250 words to spaulson@ucsd.edu by Friday, May 25. At the event, you will have the opportunity to read your entry or have it read aloud for you. All are welcome to come listen to these short stories from the beyond!
Short Tales from the Mothership is the fourth meeting of our micro-fiction project. The evening is a celebration of an elegant genre taking inspiration from the short postcard stories that magazine editor George Hay encouraged in the 1970’s. He dared such authors as Arthur C. Clarke to send sci-fi stories that easily fit onto a postcard. Come ready to be surprised and delighted by the creative short tales from fellow futurists, time-travelers, inventors, artists and writers.
Otherworldly libations from our refreshment laboratory will be served along with live theremin & synthesizer musical interludes.

Driving Directions from North of UC San Diego
1. Take I-5 southbound past the 5/805 split.
2. Take Genesee Avenue exit westbound (right off freeway).
3. Take Genesee Avenue to North Torrey Pines Road.
4. Turn left on North Torrey Pines.
5. Turn left on to North Point Drive.
6. Follow North Point Dr. through the stop signs; as it curves right it will become Hopkins Drive.
7. Continue on Hopkins Drive until you reach Voigt Drive.
8. The Hopkins parking structure is at the corner of Voigt Drive with entrances on both Hopkins and Voigt Drive.
Driving Directions from South of UC San Diego
1. Take I-5 northbound.
2. Take La Jolla Village Drive westbound (left off freeway).
3. La Jolla Village Drive turns into North Torrey Pines Road. Stay on it to North Point Drive.
4. Turn right on North Point Drive.
5. Follow North Point Dr. through the stop signs; as it curves right it will become Hopkins Drive.
6. Continue on Hopkins Drive until you reach Voigt Drive.
7. The Hopkins parking structure is at the corner of Voigt Drive with entrances on both Hopkins and Voigt Drive.
