Poem In Your Pocket Day

When
Apr 27, 2023
4:30 PM–5:30 PM

Every April, on Poem in Your Pocket Day, people celebrate by selecting a poem, carrying it with them, and sharing it with others throughout the day at schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces and on social media using the hashtag #PocketPoem.

Join the Library, the Bookstore and Audrey’s Café in celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 27.

Bring a poem and read it aloud for us at this open mic event.

Don’t have a poem in your pocket? The Library and the Bookstore have extra poems in case you are ever-so-suddenly moved to recite one.

Poem in Your Pocket Day an official activity of National Poetry Month. Learn more about the Academy of American Poets month-of-April celebrations at poets.org/national-poetry-month.

The Library often hosts poetry events and poetry exhibits during National Poetry Month, with the encouragement of The Academy of American Poets, who designated the special month in 1996 and continues to orchestrate its varied activities. In addition to the early evening Poem in Your Pocket Day event, there will be items related to National Poetry Month on display in Geisel West, 1st Floor and at The Nest adjacent to Service Hub on Geisel’s 2nd (main) Floor.
