The UC San Diego Department of Literature’s New Writing Series returns this fall with a number of events taking place virtually! Learn from talented authors

Blas Falconer is the author of three poetry collections, including Forgive the Body This Failure, and a coeditor of two essay collections, The Other Latin@: Writing Against a Singular Identity and Mentor and Muse: Essays from Poets to Poets. His poems have been featured by PoetryPoetry NorthwestHarvard Review, Verse Daily, Poetry Daily, Poetry Society of America, the Academy of American Poets, and The New York Times, among other literary journals and institutions. His awards include an NEA Fellowship, the Maureen Egen Writers Exchange, and a Tennessee Individual Artist Grant. He is a poetry editor for The Los Angeles Review and Mentor and Muse (online). Currently, he teaches in the MFA program at SDSU.

Lily Hoang is the author of six books, including Underneath (winner of the Red Hen Press Fiction Award), A Bestiary (PEN/USA Non-Fiction Award finalist), and Changing (recipient of a PEN/Open Books Award). Her micro-tale collection The Mute Kids is forthcoming in 2022. She is the Director of the MFA in Writing at UC San Diego.

This event is hosted by the Literature Department and will be archived and made available through the Library’s Archive for New Poetry in Special Collections & Archives.
