April is National Poetry Month. The Academy of American Poets established this observance in 1996, to celebrate poetry and promote its place in American culture. Visit their website for more information: http://www.poets.org
Of particular interest: each year an official poster is distributed from the Academy, free of charge.
Join us in the Seuss Room of Geisel Library on April 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for a mini-marathon live reading sponsored by the Department of Literature, the New Writing Series and the UC San Diego Library.
We’ve invited readers to bring their favorite poem, and the microphone awaits you!
Refreshments will be served.
A demonstration of book spine poetry (stacking books to create vertical poems) takes place before and after the live reading on April 2 and will remain as part of a month-long breezeway exhibit.
Also in that breezeway exhibit: an array of circulating poetry items from the Library’s permanent collection. Feel free to browse. A kiosk relaying news of other poetry events around San Diego County is nearby. Celebrate National Poetry Month!
