Lynn Russell, a professor of atmospheric chemistry at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, conducts research on aerosol particle chemistry to increase our understanding of the role atmospheric aerosols play in Earth’s climate. Russell’s colleague Ellie Farahani, executive director of the Climate Science and Policy Master of Advanced Studies program at Scripps, manages international science-policy initiatives and previously conducted field campaigns measuring greenhouse gas concentrations for more than a decade. Russell and Farahani will present the documentary film, Merchants of Doubt, based on the book written by former UC San Diego science historian Naomi Oreskes, who now teaches at Harvard. Russell uses the film in her teaching, which demonstrates how climate change deniers and special interests have attempted to influence the science-policy landscape.
Climate Change at the Crossroads is an event series in honor of Earth Month featuring Scripps Institution of Oceanography Scientists & Educators. Other events in the Climate Change at the Crossroads series include:
