In celebration of APIMEDA Programs and Services’ 5th anniversary, join us for a reading group discussion on Malaka Gharib’s graphic memoir, “I Was Their American Dream.” The book describes her journey growing up as a Filipina Egyptian American and describes her experiences being raised by immigrant parents. The discussion will be co-facilitated by Alanna Aiko Moore, librarian for sociology, ethnic studies and gender studies.

The event is free and open to the public. Current UC San Diego students are eligible to pick-up a copy of the book from an APIMEDA Programs & Services staff member on the 2nd Floor of Price Center East, in the Cross Cultural Center. Please complete this form to register and indicate when you plan to pick up a copy of the book.

About APIMEDA: Asian Pacific Islander Middle Eastern Desi American (APIMEDA) Programs and Service is an initiative within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion. Developed after strong student advocacy, APIMEDA Programs and Services provides outreach, programs, and other support for UC San Diego’s diverse APIMEDA student population. APIMEDA describes domestic students who are of Asian (including East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian), Pacific Islander, and/or Southwest Asian North African descent. APIMEDA people come from a large diversity of ethnic identities, whose population size varies widely in the US, in California, and on our campus. This office seeks to help folks find connections with one another while supporting the whole population.
