This interdisciplinary event will explore themes related to human displacement and efforts for remediation and reparation that bring into dialogue filmmakers, scholars, activists, policy analysts and journalists engaged with the cascading concerns of human and ecological insecurity in the face of climate change. The intersecting themes of this symposium are critical to present to anticipate and prepare for future challenges and opportunities that are increasingly pressing locally, regionally, and globally.

Symposium Schedule

  • 9 a.m. | Panel: “Resource Extraction & Disaster Militarism: Displacement, Resistance, Solidarity” with presenters José Artiga (Share Foundation), Luis Martín-Cabrera (Literature, UC San Diego), Tiara Na’puti (Global & International Studies, UC Irvine) and discussant, Wayne Yang (Ethnic Studies, UC San Diego)
  • 1:30 p.m. | Workshops: Melanesian Archive & Reformatting Lab Tour with Cristela Garcia-Spritz and the Data & GIS Lab with Amy Work (UC San Diego Library)
  • 3 p.m. | Keynote Address: “Towards Climate Justice: Displacement and Resilience in the Colonial-Capitalist Present” with Hossein Ayazi, Ph.D. (Global Justice Program at the Othering & Belonging Institute, UC Berkeley)
