Chinese Calligraphy Workshop

The UC San Diego Library and Center for Taiwan Studies co-hosts this year’s Chinese Calligraphy Workshop with special guest Joan Yin from the San Diego Botanic Garden. This year’s workshop will be divided into two sessions: 10 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Joan will give live demonstrations at 10 and 11 a.m., then attendees are free to try their hands on Chinese calligraphy or brush painting skills.

Since seating is limited (up to 50 people per session), registration is encouraged to ensure your spot in the Seuss Room at Geisel Library for this event.

About the Artist

Born and raised in Taiwan, Joan has always loved calligraphy and art. After graduating college with a degree in art, she studied fashion in Japan and worked in the fashion industry for years before moving to the US. Her work can be seen in North Carolina Museum of History, multiple city libraries in San Diego, Spanish Village in Balboa Park, San Diego Botanic Garden as well as Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Joan is an active member at the La Jolla Art Association and San Diego Long Hsiang painting group. She also teaches monthly brush painting workshops at San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas.
