In 2021, Juneteenth became the first new Federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was adopted in 1983. The celebration dates back to a Texas order on June 19, 1865 that reinforced the emancipation of African American slaves. Juneteenth has grown into a nationwide celebration of freedom, Black culture and community pride.

Visitors can view Juneteenth children’s books, celebratory cookbooks, official Government Documents, Juneteenth flags and traditional paper fans relaying the significance of the Juneteenth holiday.
