Connecting Communities to Improve Educational Equity: A Conversation with Campus Resources Centers and the Library

When
Feb 22, 2021
10:00 AM–11:30 AM

Join the UC San Diego Library on Monday, Feb. 22 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for an event planned in honor of Black History Month: Connecting Communities to Improve Educational Equity: A Conversation between Campus Resources and the Library.

The Coronavirus pandemic places new challenges on communities of color. In order to improve educational equity, how do we best help connect our community with vital resources? Our discussion with our campus leaders will serve as a call to action as we navigate new ways to work and live together safely. The event will kick off with a dedication to U.S. Army Sergeant Henry Johnson, whose heroism is discussed in this article from Smithsonian Magazine.

This free event will feature the following speakers:

  • Beverly Ward, co-chair of UC San Diego’s Black Staff Association
  • Gerardo Arellano, director of UC San Diego’s Raza Resource Centro
  • LaWana Richmond, organizational development manager at UC San Diego
  • Jeanine Santacruz Hernandez, social justice intern at UC San Diego

This event is presented by the Library’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and will conclude with questions from the audience.
