Canceled: Annual Turkey Calling Show

When
Nov 22, 2023
12:00 PM–1:00 PM

Update 11/14/23: This event has been canceled.

It’s that time of year again! Join us for our Annual Turkey Calling Show and learn more about the beloved turkey through calling techniques and more.

This noisy show at the Library has become a community tradition. Kids are welcome (and they’ll be reciting turkey-related riddles). Presented as an old-time radio show, this celebration is filled with music, sound effects, stories and facts of interest… prizes, too (no one leaves empty-handed).

Your host and bandleader Scott Paulson, a UC San Diego alumnus and exhibits and events coordinator at the Library, has been lauded by the San Diego Union-Tribune for his entertaining shows: “an avant-garde vaudevillian, think Samuel Beckett meets John Cage.”  The Los Angeles Times relayed “Paulson’s brand of G-rated fun, a sort of modern-day morphing of Captain Kangaroo and Spike Jones, is always lively and at times wonderfully chaotic.”

Special guests this year: Story Lady Melanie Peters, DJ Camille Cannon and Turkey Hotline Operator Karen Fisher.
