Please join us at the film screening of …and the earth did not swallow him, by award-winning filmmaker, Paul Espinosa, whose personal archive was recently acquired by the UC San Diego Library, on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 7 – 9 PM at the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) in Balboa Park. The award-winning independent filmmaker is renowned for his documentary and dramatic films focused on the U.S.-Mexico border region, immigration, and cross-cultural issues. His films include The Lemon Grove Incident, The U.S.-Mexico War, and Uneasy Neighbors. Paul Espinosa will attend and participate in a Q&A after the film screening.
Film Synopsis: A moving and powerful portrait of the life of a poor Mexican American boy and his migrant farm worker family as they struggle to adjust to life in American society. Told through the eyes of Marcos, a twelve-year-old boy, the film emphasizes Marcos’ desire to educate himself. Through its many human stories of growing up as a Mexican American, the story exposes the rich cultural traditions which have given shape to life in the American Southwest.

The Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) is located in Balboa Park in the Casa de Balboa building, along with the Model Railroad Museum and the San Diego History Center. Casa de Balboa is the building next to the Prado Restaurant.

Parking lots are available along Space Theater Way and street parking is available along Park Blvd. Since parking may be difficult during peak times or during events, additional parking lots are located through Balboa Park. Download a Balboa Park map to locate other parking areas.
