An exclusive evening of discovery and exploration for Library Associates

Rescheduled from January 23, 2025

Library Associates are invited to join us as we delve into the captivating world of piracy through the Library’s exceptional treasures in Special Collections & Archives.

Alongside Lynda Claassen, Director of Special Collections & Archives, renowned historian and UC San Diego associate professor Mark Hanna will share the innovative approaches he’s adopted in his teaching. His curriculum combines hands-on seafaring experiences with the rich resources of the Library’s Hill Collection of Pacific Voyages. This unique integration has inspired Hollywood and a new generation of students, which we’re thrilled to share with you.

During this special evening, Professor Hanna will regale us with tales of how the Library’s rare and unique materials helped shape his course. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the Hill Collection’s treasures up close, providing a glimpse into the past life of seafarers from around the globe.
