UC San Diego Library Appoints Dani Cook as Associate University Librarian, Learning and User Experience

Yearlong effort to recruit three senior executives to serve on Library’s leadership team culminates with the hire of accomplished library professional

The University of California San Diego Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Dani Cook as associate university librarian, learning and user experience (AUL, LUE). Cook assumes her new role today. She was selected for this position after an extensive national search and brings a myriad of talents and next-level expertise in library science that will help to advance the Library’s digital and physical library experiences and spaces as a destination for scholarship and the academic community.

“We are excited to welcome Dani to our senior leadership team at the UC San Diego Library,” said Audrey Geisel University Librarian Erik Mitchell. “Her experience and expertise in research and assessment methods makes her a perfect fit for this important role at our organization. We look forward to working with Dani to elevate the user experience and to prepare a responsive framework for continuous adaptation to user needs in direct support of the Library’s and university’s vision to be a student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented public university.”

The AUL, LUE is responsible for building collaborative partnerships within the Library and across campus that enhance academic engagement and strengthen patron services. Within the Library, Cook will oversee program directors in Academic Engagement and Learning Services, Spaces, Lending & Access, and Technology and Digital Experience.

“I am delighted to have been selected for this position at the UC San Diego Library,” Cook said. “My professional expertise lies in person-centered approaches to library instruction, service design, and assessment. I look forward to working with the excellent team at the Library to further develop their already impressive programs.”

Cook comes to the Library from the UC Riverside Library where she had been serving as director of teaching and learning since 2016. Prior to that, she worked at the Claremont Colleges Library in various capacities, including as information literacy and research services coordinator from 2013 to 2016.

Cook brings nearly a decade of experience in academic and public libraries. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from University of Chicago, a master’s degree in library science from the University of North Carolina and a second master’s in research, evaluation, measurement and statistics from the UC Riverside Graduate School of Education.
