Mark Harris is a three-time Academy Award winner for documentary films: The Redwoods (1968); The Long Way Home (1997); and, Into the Arms of Strangers (2001). In 1966, after reading Edgar Z. Friedenberg’s article “Another America” in the New York Review of Books (March 3, 1966) Mark came to Delano to make a documentary film about the Delano Grape Strike, which he entitled: HUELGA!
After the film’s release in 1967, HUELGA! was shown in international film festivals in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Eventually, it was shown on National Educational Television, the precursor of PBS.
