Fredrick Daniels, a South Sea Evangelical Mission (SSEM) missionary, was assassinated preaching at Uru in 1911, not far from Atoifi, by two men of Farisi. The government staged a punitive expedition.
Batamani Maenaa’adi, a man from Saua ('Aisi'ina, Furi’isi’ina) in the mountains behind Sinalagu Harbour, worked extensively with Keesing. He was still living in 2020.
The Farisi raid refers to the government punitive strike on Farisi after Daniels was killed by two men from there. Five people were killed. An ’ai’imae is a story about killings in the past, either told or sung in ancestral chant performances that last many hours.
'An ’ai’imae is a story about killings in the past, either told or sung in ancestral chant performances that last many hours. ’Ai’imae ancestral chants are often performed at a series of wakes after a death, which are called boni. There are rituals that must be followed around holding wakes.
Maenaa’adi, from Saua, was a well-known singer of these chants.
A guru is an award given to a theif who stole a pig meant for the feast.
