- Description
-
Presbyterian church in Wintua. Paradoxically, the Presbyterian Church that brought the Mewun into mission villages where missionaries first introduced the European concepts of labor and mercantilism has been most supportive of Mewun efforts for independence. The church, once the main Western influence in the New Hebrides, was where emancipation from colonialism was discussed very early in the process. This church also served as an example of complex organization and prepared the Mewun for national political structures and ideology.
