- Description
-
The purpose of this cruise beyond simply characterizing the bathymetric and magnetic terrain of a significant fraction of the seafloor, is to test hypotheses about the modes of origin of nontransform offsets; to descriminate between different ideas about their longevity; to establish and try to explain the directions and rates of along-strike migration; and to clarify their role as sites for near-axis and off axis volcanism and seamount-building.
