Cross on Observation Hill adjacent to McMurdo Station, Ross Islaned, Antarctica. January 1985. Robert Falcon Scott's South Pole expedition party was found dead by a search party who returned to what is now known as McMurdo and climbed Observation Hill. There they erected a large wooden cross, inscribed the names of the fatal party and a short quote from the Alfred Tennyson poem "Ulysses", which reads "To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
