Shore of Lake Mweru Wantipa, with tree and vegetation growing out of the water, near Mukupa Katandula village

- Description
-
In the late 1950s, this area was mostly a marsh with some seasonal rise in water levels. Mostly due to a colonial government project of digging "cuts" that made drainage from the Kalungwishi River into the lake area more common and led, in part, to a more or less permanent lake area. This is why trees are often found coming up out of the lake surface, remnants of the drier landscape. The water level has regularly, over the years, changed dramatically from a fairly large, deep lake to mostly marshlands.
