AVON03MV-075D (dredge, rock)
Interval 1 (dredge, rock)
Description | Geological location: Tau Island, Samoa. General description: Vesicular basalt pillow with a frothy glass surface. Erupted from a volcanic seamount near Tau Island, Samoa. Small spherical cavities, called "vesicles" were "captured in stone" as its gas-rich, molten lava cooled rapidly. The gas vesicles also contributed to the frothy glass texture on the surface of the basalt. |
