Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, California - 1798. San Luis Rey is the last mission founded in the eighteenth century. The dedication ceremonies took place in June, 1798. It is known as the grandest and richest of missions and is located in a most picturesque section near Oceanside, some 50 miles distant from San Diego.
