3 1/4" x 6" leather-bound "Bancroft's Diary for 1869" with handwritten annotations. Includes a recipe said to cure rheumatism, a June 17th notation regarding moving the Express office to "New San Diego," and a September 18th annotation, "A great day for San Diego" noting the arrival of Governor Seward, Generals Stoneman and Hunter, and other dignitaries, and a pasted-in newspaper article about stamp requirements for legal paperwork.
