Ping: Rehearsal for 2011 UC San Diego performance: Hembreee with computer displaying Ping patch in Pd

During the Spring of 2011, Ross Kare organized a performance of the restored Ping with himself as percussionist, flutist Rachel Beetze, pianist-leader Roger Reynolds. The visuals performer was Dustin Donahue and the real time computer performer, Paul Hembree. Karre had previously restored, with the invaluable assistance of the UCSD Geisel Library, the original 1968 film of Ping. The Library also undertook the digitization of the 160 slides necessary for performance and a large amount of other Ping-related documentation. As an aspect of his interest in the larger project, Karre also arranged for an imaginative video document to be made, and encouraged further documentation of the rehearsals leading up to an April 2011 studio recording and concert.
