Michel, Kurt; Gundlach, Heinz (2021). CIL:39229, Psophus stridulus, spermatocyte. In Cell Image Library. UC San Diego Library Digital Collections. Dataset. https://doi.org/10.6075/J0RF5TDZ
- Description
-
Time lapse movie of meiosis II in spermatocytes of the Locust Psophus stridulus showing telophase and the early spermatid stage.
This is a historic movie made in the early 40s by Kurt Michel of the Zeiss company in Jena using Zernike's newly invented phase contrast microscope.
Despite its early date, the movie and the others in the group remain some of the clearest examples of chromosome behavior during meiosis. - Date Issued

The movie was originally recorded on 35mm film, and later transferred to CD format. The text at the beginning of the movie translates approximately as follows:
Meiosis II, telophase and the early spermatid spermatid stage.
