- Description
-
Zhou Duo is an important public intellectual who has held teaching positions at Beijing University and for a year at Harvard University. He was a manager for an innovative electronics firm and was involved in philanthropy. He has become an important historical figure for saving lives during the Chinese military crackdown on student protesters in Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989. He had mixed feelings about the student demonstrators as he believes that China should pursue policies of gradual political change within the existing political framework. Zhou Duo's wife, Zhao Yanying, was a documentary film director Beijing T.V.. This photograph was taken at Zhou Duo's and Zhao Yanying's apartment in Beijing while Zhao Yangying and I were discussing a documentary film project on China's alternative culture we were working on together.
