Inscription | Fountain of Ceres, Court of Four Seasons, Panama-Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, February 20 to December 4, 1915. Ceres - The Goddess of Agriculture. Her daughter, Persephone, was carried off by Pluto, King of the lower world, but was afterwards restored to her mother six months in the year, typifying the springing of the grain from the earth and thence its disappearance. |
