Family Tree
- Collection
- Description
-
A family tree kept in this notebook was stored in the office of Aile Rantes. Observation of an anthropologist assembling a genealogy might have inspired this drawing. This family tree is apparently that of the Amarantus/Aileh Rantes (Aile Randas) family. Aile's father, Amarantus, accompanied Arthur Bernard Deacon (the first anthropologist in South West Bay) on most of his bush journeys and acted as his interpreter. Amarantus cared for Deacon during his last illness and was among those who made certain that Deacon's grave was marked.
