Independence Anniversary Celebration, 'Wan People Wan Nason' (One People, One Nation) tee-shirt worn at the First Anniversary Independence Celebration. Prior to Independence, the New Hebrides was governed by two colonial governments, had three official languages and two currencies - not much of a basis for national unity. One of earliest tasks of the new country was to encourage common goals, unity and cooperation between ethnic groups. This tee shirt in Bislama shows one of the social messages at that time.
