A collection of 17 photographs of African American residents of Napa, St. Helena, Woodland, and Oakland, California. Most of the photographs are studio portraits on card mounts dating from the 1890s. The photographs likely belonged to Alice Jennings, née Canner. Two of the photographs are inscribed on the verso, "To Alice," including a striking full standing portrait of an elegantly dressed African American man, likely Alice's husband. Two of the baby pictures are identified as being Wesley Jennings. Most of the photographs are of unidentified family members or friends. Alice Canner was born in Napa in 1873, the daughter of Paul and Julia Canner. She married James Henry Jennings in 1892 and had two children, Wesley LeRoy "Jinks" Jennings and Vernia Jennings. Alice died in Napa in 1897.
