Nguu is a generic term for singing but in this case refers to ’ai’imae, chants about ancestral feats and fighting in the past sung by groups at wakes or some mortuary feasts.
The lead singer is the man Basiberi, from the ’Oloburi area. He died in the late 1990s. The style from that area is different from that in the area behind Sinalagu.
Recording is a continuation of Keesing Reel-to-Reel 122-123.
