First Missionaries in South West Bay, Malekula
- Collection
- Description
-
Robert and Mrs. Boyd were the first Christian missionaries in Wintua. A native of Scotland, Boyd first came to South West Bay alone. He later married and brought his Australian wife there; they remained in South West Bay for about 20 years. Each new convert was given a Bible and piece of cloth to convert into clothing, thereby inducting him or her into the church and the cash economy simultaneously.
