Autograph letter, signed, to Zalmon Sanford, describing Taylor's experiences in California during the gold rush. Taylor left the mines in August and came to San Francisco, but contracted bilious fever which cost him time and money. He entered into an agreement with a Mr. Oats to go into business, but backed out of the contract. Homesick, Taylor expresses a wish to return to his "coal yard", but plans to remain in California until he can accumulate money to pay his debts
