Slag and ash layer -- Ash fill + Slag -- Layer of slag and ashy material on the central-western end of the excavations's northern extension. The layer is identcal in character and finds to L1849, located on the other side (north) of wall L1851, but differs from loci to the immediate east. -- Represents layer of industrial activity between the early structure and the main building of the 9th century phase.

Much slag, some tuyere pipes, furnace fragments and scattered ceramics.

Closed with the appearance of a burnt center (white ash compact layer) and a few flat sones possibly indicated a surface
