This volume involves eight patrol reports recorded by five patrol officers from 1961 to 1962 in West New Britain. The main purposes of the patrol were tax collection and census information. These reports inform readers about agriculture, health, education, economic development and road construction in this region. Extra attention was paid to the potential economic growth from cash crops such as cocoa, coconut, potatoes, taro, banana and copra. Patrol officers reported on the soil status and availability of agriculture as well as the means of transporting the products to other regions to make reasonable profit. Other resources available in West New Britiain such as timbers were also introduced as potential source of economic growth in this region. Some of the reports also recorded the time it took from one region to other region. Another main topic of the reports was education and Catholic Mission Schools, and independence. Also described was the conflict between different villages and how diverse the languages and dialects are in the region, such as Nakanai, Witus, Bariai, and Kaliai.
